Shalom Center’s capacity increased from 16 to 20 with the addition of two new cottages with five self-contained suites, four for residents, and one for visiting leadership. As we increased our capacity, our occupancy increased, also, from an average of 13 residents in 2013 to an average daily occupancy of 17 residents in 2014. For much of 2014 we were at full capacity.

Shalom Center presented programs to the seminarians of Assumption Seminary in San Antonio recently as part of their series on human formation and development. The eighty seminarians had a full day of presentations from Father Tom Thomas, associate clinical coordinator, and Daniel Kidd, executive director.

The Serra Club of Northeast Houston has been assisting Shalom Center with special holiday meals for our residents, and several members have become volunteer drivers to transport residents to medical appointments, meetings, etc. This group has been of great assistance to us in recent months with these new activities to support our priests and religious in treatment.

Serra Clubs continue to be of great assistance to Shalom Center. The new Serra Club of Northeast Houston hosted a presentation on Shalom Center and visited us in January, and a presentation was made to the Serra Club of Galveston in January to update the group on Shalom Center’s progress.  Both groups have provided prayerful and financial help to our programs.
